Sacramento serial rapist who lured his victims into roadside attacks in 2022 sentenced
A serial rapist convicted in a series of attacks along a south Sacramento freeway in 2022 was sentenced to 36 years to life in state prison last week.
Nabil Elomari pleaded in January to two counts of sodomy by force and two counts of rape by force connected to attacks in October and November 2022 and a third attempted sex assault in December 2022. Sacramento County prosecutors said Elomari, now 26, lured each of his victims into his car before committing the attacks off Highway 99.
Elomari was sentenced Friday before Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. Elomari must also register as a sex offender as part of the January plea.
Elomari found his first victim in October 2022 waiting outside her friend’s home, said prosecutors. Elomari offered to drive the woman home. He drove briefly on Highway 99 before pulling to the side of the freeway where he sexually assaulted the woman at knifepoint.
Elomari released the woman after the attack and fled. His victim called 911 from a nearby gas station. California Highway Patrol investigated the roadside attack.
Elomari struck a second time in November, this time pulling his car next to a woman walking in the early morning hours, said the D.A.’s Office. He offered the woman a seat in his car to keep warm, then drove her away to a secluded area where he attacked her at knifepoint before letting her go and fleeing.
CHP officers in December spotted a car matching the one described in the November attack alongside the highway. Elomari and a woman, bruised and partially clothed, emerged from the car.
The woman declined to talk to investigators and left the scene, the D.A.’s Office said, but CHP detectives later linked the three attacks and reopened their investigation into the October and December cases.
The three women told investigators Elomari was the man who raped them.
Elomari was arrested at his home by CHP investigators in December 2022.
Detectives working out of the patrol’s Valley Division Investigative Services Unit narrowed the attacks to a roughly 2½-mile area near the northbound lanes of Highway 99 in south Sacramento, The Bee reported following Elomari’s arrest.
Elomari will not be eligible for parole until age 50, under California law.
