Standoff with law enforcement follows pursuit and crash in Citrus Heights
An armed man facing warrants for gun threats and assaulting a peace officer was arrested in Citrus Heights on Wednesday after a pursuit that ended in a crash and standoff with sheriff’s deputies.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office deputies pursued the man to Antelope Road near Tupelo Drive in Citrus Heights where he crashed his car, sheriff’s officials said in social media posts. The man then barricaded himself inside the wrecked vehicle as deputies as well as Citrus Heights and Roseville police officers surrounded the car.
The man ultimately surrendered to sheriff’s deputies and was taken into custody, the Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday afternoon.
Images from KCRA-TV taken during the standoff showed deputies with their weapons trained on the heavily damaged car stalled in the roadway at Tupelo and Cunano Way as a Sheriff’s Office armored vehicle parked alongside the suspect.
The ordeal began just before noon, the Sheriff’s Office said, and the man was in custody before 2:30 p.m. The man sped off as deputies tried to serve the warrants and the chase ensued.
