Sacramento man accused of preying on ‘numerous’ children in California, Nevada
A suspected serial sexual predator accused of targeting children, including infants, across California and Nevada was arrested and held in Sacramento County custody, authorities said. Investigators believe additional victims may exist.
Detectives arrested Adam Fitzgerald Williams, 39, on March 28 at his Sacramento County home. There, detectives found what were described as a catalog of home recordings of Williams sexually abusing “multiple female children” ranging from infants to teenagers, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office news release.
“Detectives learned of at least 10 of Williams’ victims, but fear there are more,” said Sheriff’s officials. “Williams is believed to have had access to numerous children throughout California,” Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office continued, calling on the public to help locate any possible victims.
Williams is being held in lieu of $1 million bail on numerous charges connected to the years of alleged abuse including lewd and lascivious acts with a child younger than 14; possession of in excess of 600 images of child pornography; possession of child pornography; and possession of child pornography for commercial purposes, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Williams’ first court appearance was scheduled for Friday in Sacramento Superior Court.
Sheriff’s officials said the abuse, captured on the seized recordings, spanned “numerous years throughout California and Nevada.”
Detectives seized thousands of images of child sexual abuse materials from Williams’ home during his arrest, including images of infants, toddlers and prepubescent children. Detectives also found what they described as child sexual assault images of infants, toddlers and children created via artificial intelligence.
A California bill approved last year by lawmakers expanded existing child pornography laws to crack down on artificially created child sexual materials. The arrest was among the first by the joint Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Task Force concerning AI-generated child sexual abuse materials, folded into existing child pornography law on Jan. 1 .
Sheriff’s officials said task force investigators were tipped off to a Sacramento County-based Google account uploading videos and images of child sexual abuse. Google also referred the account activity to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which found that some of the suspected material being uploaded was newly made.
The discovery was enough for task force investigators to arrest Williams, deputies said.
