A former Placer County schools custodian arrested Thursday was suspected of harassing a student while working on a Loomis Union School District campus.

Placer County sheriff’s deputies arrested the 47-year-old man at a home in Loomis, the Sheriff’s Office said in a Thursday news release. Sheriff’s officials said the arrest on suspicion of inappropriate contact with a student came out of an investigation into reports that Newman had engaged in harassing behavior while employed by the district.

District officials called in Placer authorities when they learned of the conduct, the Sheriff’s Office said, adding that no other students were the focus of the alleged harassment.

The man is in custody at South Placer Jail and being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. It was not immediately known when he would be arraigned.
