California prison officials are searching for an inmate from El Dorado County who walked away from a fire camp in Tehama County on Thursday night.

Antonio Munoz, 36, was discovered missing around 10:30 p.m. during a head count at the Ishi Conservation Camp in Payne’s Creek, according to the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Munoz, described as 6 feet and 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a white thermal long-sleeve shirt and white and black tennis shoes.

CDCR said agents with its Office of Correctional Safety were quickly assigned to locate Munoz, and local law enforcement agencies were notified. Anyone who sees Munoz or has information about his whereabouts is urged to call 911 or contact Special Agent Tim Keeney at 916-210-9159.

Munoz was serving a 15-year sentence at the minimum-security fire camp for first-degree robbery of an inhabited dwelling, records show. He had been transferred from El Dorado County and arrived in state prison custody on Dec. 28, 2022.

Since 1977, CDCR officials said, 99% of inmates who escaped from a state prison, fire camp or community placement have been apprehended.
