Sacramento sheriff’s detectives arrest 25-year-old after fatal stabbing in Fair Oaks

Homicide investigation

A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man Sunday night outside a Fair Oaks pub, according to Sacramento County sheriff’s officials.

Deputies responded about 8 p.m. to a report of a stabbing in the 10000 block of Fair Oaks Boulevard. They found a man with stab wounds in a parking lot near Players Sports Pub & Grill. He was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters.

Authorities on Tuesday identified the suspect as Jordan Murray, who was taken into custody earlier in the day in southern Sacramento County. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of homicide and was scheduled to appear in court Thursday, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s detectives said the stabbing followed an earlier altercation involving Murray, the victim and others. A short time later, “the victim encountered Murray and one of the individuals from the earlier fight,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Murray produced a knife from his pocket and began swinging it at the victim,” leaving him with “multiple stab wounds.”

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 40-year-old Carlos Romero.

Officials noted Murray had previously been granted mental health diversion in connection with two robbery cases involving the use of a caustic chemical against store employees at Dollar Tree on Sunrise Boulevard in May and another Fair Oaks business in June. He had been released from custody six months before Sunday’s stabbing occurred, the Sheriff’s Office said.
