Officers on Thursday afternoon were investigating the death of a man in a shooting in Sacramento’s River District.

Shortly before 3 p.m., officers responded to reports of the shooting near Richards Boulevard and North 12th Street, just south of the American River.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the wounded man who was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he died from his injuries, said Officer Allison Smith, a Sacramento Police Department spokesperson.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name and age after his family has been notified.

Smith said investigators did not have any suspect description to release. The Police Department did not release any information about what might have led up to the shooting.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were going to take over the investigation to collect evidence, canvass the area and question witnesses.
