A 21-year-old Lincoln man is facing arson and illegal fireworks charges connected to a windswept grass fire Saturday, Lincoln Fire Department officials announced Tuesday.

The fire at East 8th Street and South Herald Avenue ignited just after 11:45 a.m., bringing Lincoln firefighters and police to the scene. The blaze, fueled by what were described as substantial winds, forced authorities to evacuate several homes as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Lincoln officers and fire investigators determined that illegal fireworks that were set off in the area triggered the blaze.

Officers later traced the fire and the illegal fireworks to the man and booked him into Placer County Sheriff’s Office custody on suspicion of arson and possession of a destructive device, according to the news release.
