A 14-year-old boy who allegedly carjacked a woman at gunpoint late Wednesday in Rancho Cordova before crashing the car minutes later while fleeing Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies is in juvenile custody.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said a woman walked into a store in the 4000 block of Sunrise Boulevard just before 10 p.m., telling the clerk of the carjacking.

A patrolling Sheriff’s Office helicopter spotted the stolen car on the move about 10:10 p.m. as deputies on the street tried to pull over the driver.

The teen crashed the car two minutes later, colliding into another vehicle at Folsom Boulevard and Manlove Avenue, before the driver surrendered to deputies, sheriff’s officials said. The driver of the second car was not injured.
