Elk Grove residents invited to learn about policing procedures

The Elk Grove Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Academy, a program that aims to acquaint residents with the various aspects of municipal policing.

The next Citizens Academy begins Sept. 1. The 13-week program will cover police procedures, including patrol and investigations, vehicle operations, arrest and control techniques, 911 communications, code enforcement and animal control.

The academy is offered free of charge. Sessions will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at the Elk Grove Police Department. Participants must be at least 18 years old, live or work in Elk Grove and have no felony convictions. A background check will be completed on all applicants before they enter the program.
