Pedestrian killed in suspected hit-and-run on Highway 99 in south Sacramento

A pedestrian was struck and killed early Friday in a suspected hit-and-run collision on Highway 99 in south Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers located the victim’s body on the southbound side of the highway just north of Fruitridge Road around 5:20 a.m. All southbound lanes were temporarily closed as emergency crews and Sacramento County coroner’s officials responded, according to CHP incident logs.

The Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after notifying next of kin. CHP officers said they were continuing to search for the driver who fled the scene.

All lanes reopened shortly before 7 a.m., CHP dispatchers said.
