Arrest made after woman killed near Fruitridge RT station, Sacramento police say

A 54-year-old man suspected of a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman Monday has been arrested, Sacramento police said.

The wreck occurred just before 9:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Fruitridge Road, less than half a block from the Fruitridge light rail station in the Brentwood neighborhood. Officers arrived to find an adult female pedestrian with critical injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was expected to release the woman’s name once relatives are notified of her death.

In an update, police said that detectives worked to locate a suspect driver and place him into custody. He is now booked at Sacramento County Main Jail on charges stemming from the hit-and-run, including vehicular manslaughter.

He is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Sacramento Superior Court.
