Man dies after six-story fall from Howe Avenue building after alleged break-in
A suspect in an Arden Arcade office building break-in died after falling from a sixth-floor balcony Sunday, a Sacramento County sheriff spokesperson said.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Captain Mark Nunez said that firefighters responded to a fire alarm at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning at 1750 Howe Ave. The building is a six-story office complex at the intersection with Arden Way. The firefighters spotted a man on the sixth-floor balcony.
A spokesperson for the sheriff said that deputies arrived at the building just before 3 a.m. The sheriff’s spokesperson said that about a minute after deputies arrived, the man fell from the balcony and sustained major injuries. Trained personnel from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District performed CPR, and paramedics rushed him to the hospital.
Deputies investigated, and said that the man who died had broken into the building and pulled the fire alarm. The spokesperson said that he had caused $100,000 in damages without specifying how he had done so. Deputies reported that the man forced his way onto the balcony and climbed over the railing before his fatal fall.
