Alleged Elk Grove gas station shooter surrenders, faces attempted murder charge
The suspected gunman who fled after a shooting that wounded a man at an Elk Grove gas station Wednesday is in Sacramento County Main Jail on attempted murder charges after turning himself over to Bay Area authorities.
Joshua Cash, 33, of Sacramento, turned himself in at an unnamed law enforcement agency Thursday morning, Elk Grove Police Department officials said.
Elk Grove detectives retrieved Cash for the trip back to Sacramento County, where he will face the attempted murder charge and an allegation of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Cash is being held without bail as he awaits his Tuesday arraignment in Sacramento Superior Court.
Elk Grove police say Cash and a 21-year-old man were arguing in the parking lot of a Chevron gas station on Kammerer Road at the end of Promenade Parkway in the southern end of Elk Grove about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday when the argument turned violent.
The man, identified as Cash, opened fire, wounding the man. The 21-year-old, who was also armed, returned fire. Police later said the shooting was “not a random incident,” but did not elaborate.
Cash drove away from the scene. Responding officers found the unidentified 21-year-old in the parking lot with a gunshot wound, treating him before he was taken by fire personnel to the hospital.
Elk Grove Police Department officials said he was expected to survive.
