3 people found shot dead in Carmichael apartment, Sacramento deputies say
Three people were found shot to death Sunday morning in a Carmichael apartment after a relative found bullet holes at an apartment of a family member and called 911, authorities said.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies responded just after 7 a.m. to the 4800 block of El Camino Avenue. A family member told dispatchers they had seen bullet holes in the apartment door and were unable to reach residents inside.
Deputies entered the unit and found three people dead from gunshot wounds on the floor. All were pronounced dead at the scene.
“There were some bullet holes on the front of the residence,” said Sgt. Alex Zakrzewski, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office. “When deputies entered the residence, they located three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds who were pronounced deceased.”
The victims may have been residents of the apartment, but they had not been publicly identified as of Sunday. Zakrzewski said investigators expected to remain at the scene for several hours.
“We don’t have any information in regards to how they were shot or where they were shot from,” he said. “We don’t know if the shots were fired from inside or outside the apartment.”
The Lance Apartments, operated by Mercy Housing, is equipped with surveillance cameras, but detectives had not yet obtained the video footage.
“Ultimately, safety should probably be the priority of any property management company,” said Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Amar Gandhi. He said access to the cameras “would definitely help tighten up the timeline, maybe even find a suspect.”
“We can’t get video from Mercy,” Gandhi said. “We’re going to hopefully get a judicial order and a warrant to expedite this process.”
Zakrzewski said deputies had not received other calls about gunfire in the area before the welfare check, and it remained unclear when the shooting took place.
No suspect information has been released, and no arrests have been made.
