The driver of a sport utility vehicle died Monday in a crash with a tractor trailer truck at the entrance of a shopping center in Placer County.

The deadly crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. in the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and one of the entrances of Sterling Pointe Center in Lincoln.

Officers, along with firefighters and medics, responded to reports of the crash and found the SUV and the tractor trailer with a fully loaded trailer, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

The SUV had major front-end damage. Police said a male driving the SUV was pinned inside the vehicle, and firefighters had to free him from the vehicle. Nobody else was in the SUV.

The SUV’s driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Placer County Coroner’s Office will release his name after his family has been notified.

Police said the tractor trailer’s driver was not injured in the crash. Authorities closed the northbound lanes of Lincoln Boulevard for two hours as officers investigated the crash.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, which “will require in depth reconstruction and analysis of the scene,” police said.
