Motorcyclist, 28, dies in collision fleeing Citrus Heights police
A motorcyclist who fled Citrus Heights police during a pursuit Monday night is dead after he crashed into another vehicle, authorities said Tuesday.
Citrus Heights Police Department officials said an officer was preparing to stop the 28-year-old man near Antelope Road and Wonder Street for suspected unspecified vehicle code violations when the rider fled.
Police officials in a statement said the rider ran stop signs and traffic signals and turned off his headlights during the chase as a Sacramento Police Department helicopter was called to assist in the pursuit.
The motorcycle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Antelope Road and Mariposa Avenue. The force of the collision ejected the rider and he was prounced dead at the scene, Citrus Heights police said.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name after notifying next of kin.
The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt in the crash.
California Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team members were called to the collision. The fatal wreck closed the intersection at Antelope and Mariposa for several hours as officers cleared the scene and investigators began their work.
