South Lake Tahoe pro tem Cody Bass was arrested at a Stateline, Nevada, brewpub in late September on suspicion of assault, trespassing and harassment, the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported.

Bass, who has served on the South Lake Tahoe city council since 2018, was arrested Sept. 25 at Lake Tahoe AleWorx, after what Douglas County, Nevada, sheriff’s officials described as a verbal and physical altercation with an employee at the brewpub. Bass was later released from custody.

Bass was allegedly the aggressor in the fight, the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported, citing reports from the arresting deputy following the incident. Bass had reportedly been banned from the bar after an earlier report of battery and trespassing, the Tahoe newspaper reported, citing the deputy’s report.

Deputies were called by Bass to the Stateline strip for the fracas just before midnight, the newspaper reported.

Bass’ September arrest was less that two weeks after South Lake Tahoe’s mayor attempted to take her own life after stealing money from her church, Lake Tahoe Presbyterian Community Church.

Tamara Wallace, an administrator at the church, confessed to taking the funds in letters Monday to the Daily Tribune and SouthLakeTahoeNow.com. Wallace said she wrote the letters after a phone call from an inquiring Tribune reporter.

El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office will investigate, officials told The Sacramento Bee.

Wallace said in the letters that she attempted suicide on Sept. 11, her birthday. Wallace said she planned to use the stolen funds, in part, to help the family of her late son, Christopher Wallace, who died from fentanyl poisoning.

“Sorry is not a strong enough word to explain the depths of my regret and shame” Wallace wrote. “I do not think anyone can be as angry at me as I am at myself.”

Wallace’s term ends in November 2026.

Bass was elected to South Lake Tahoe City Council in 2018 and won reelection in 2022. He was appointed to serve as pro tem in 2023 and serves on several council committees.

His term also ends in November 2026.
