A 16-year-old Roseville boy accused in a string of car fires is being held in Placer County juvenile custody on arson charges, the Roseville Police Department said.

Five vehicles were set alight in the area of Bill Hughes Park, 1600 Parkside Way, in the space of 10 days, Roseville police said. The fires were within walking distance of each other. Police have been investigating the suspicious blazes since the first incident Oct. 13.

Authorities said extra officers and detectives were patrolling the area Thursday when a resident near Angus Drive and the park called 911 shortly after midnight to report what police described as a loud, banging noise sounding from their vehicle and a figure standing next to the car. The vehicle’s window had been broken out and flames could be seen inside the car, Roseville police said.

Officers and detectives staking out the area closed in on a person fleeing the area quickly finding and arresting the teen.

Officers later executed a search warrant at the teen’s home finding what police said was evidence connecting him to the earlier car arsons. The 16-year-old was booked into Placer County juvenile custody on suspicion of arson.

The incidents remain under investigation.
