Manteca, Sacramento men accused of stealing big rig, $400K in goods face charges
Authorities have arrested three people in connection with the August theft of a tractor-trailer and its $400,000 cargo and the attempted theft of a second rig later that month near Yuba City.
The arrests of the three men — two from Manteca in November, the third this week from Sacramento — wrapped a monthslong investigation into the heists, said Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.
Woodland police recovered the first trailer, stolen from a Live Oak, Sutter County, truck lot abandoned and emptied of its product, following the Aug. 3 theft. The semi’s cab was recovered miles away by Sacramento police, said Sutter County sheriff’s officials.
The suspects fled before making off with the second big rig Aug. 25, but the truck’s owner provided investigators with enough information to lead them to an arrest.
Authorities carrying search warrants for homes in Manteca and Sacramento arrested one of the two Manteca men and the Sacramento-based suspect Nov. 25 on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy.
Several weapons were also recovered from the Manteca home including a fully automatic AR-15 rifle, Sutter County sheriff’s officials said. The weapons charges were forwarded to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.
The second of the two Manteca men was arrested Tuesday in Manteca with assistance from Modesto Police Department. He is being held in Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy and awaits extradition to Sutter County Jail in Yuba City.
