Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies arrested 25 people Monday during the first day of a holiday retail theft operation, the Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Deputies arrested 25 people Monday connected to the alleged thefts. The busts came during the opening day of what the office said will be a multi-day operation to keep shoppers and retailers safe during the busy holiday shopping season.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Organized Retail Theft Task Force focused on Target stores in unincorporated Sacramento County. The operation was conducted in coordination with Elk Grove police, authorities said.

“This is just the beginning, as our teams will be conducting similar operations throughout the county all week at multiple locations,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a department Facebook post announcing the arrests.
