A Sacramento County jury last month convicted a Los Angeles man who sexually abused a 10-year-old boy he “groomed” while playing video games online on Xbox, prosecutors said.

On Dec. 10, Javier Frank Arizmendi, 57, was found guilty of two counts of committing a lewd act upon a child, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday in a news release.

Prosecutors said Arizmendi also was found guilty of kidnapping a child with the intent to commit molestation, arranging to meet with a minor for lewd purposes and contacting a minor with the intent to commit kidnapping, sexual assault or other specified offenses.

Arizmendi met the 10-year-old while playing video games on the online platform Xbox Live. Prosecutors said Arizmendi “groomed” the boy by giving him access to paid features on Xbox Live.

Arizmendi then began sending the child sexual messages and made a plan to have the boy join him in Los Angeles to engage in a sexual relationship with him, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Arizmendi drove to Sacramento, picked up the child in his car and began driving back to Los Angeles with the boy. Arizmendi eventually drove the boy back to Sacramento after the boy became upset when Arizmendi touched him, according to the DA’s Office.

Arizmendi later admitted to investigators that he had intentions to engage in a sexual relationship with the boy in Los Angeles.

Sacramento County Jail records showed Arizmendi was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office. He was transferred to Sacramento County on Oct. 10, 2019, and was being held without bail Friday afternoon at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center near Elk Grove.

Arizmendi is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 20 in Sacramento Superior Court. Prosecutors said Arizmendi faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
