Elk Grove teen arrested after threatening father with knife, police say
A 17-year-old boy was arrested Sunday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after police said he tried to attack a parent with a knife and barricaded himself inside his family’s Elk Grove home.
Officers were called shortly after 7 p.m. to the 9000 block of Almondwillow Way, the Elk Grove Police Department said in a news release. According to police radio dispatches reviewed by The Sacramento Bee, a father and son had been arguing before the situation escalated and the teenager retrieved a knife. Officers at the scene told dispatchers they believed the call involved a mental health crisis, according to dispatches.
When officers arrived, the teen barricaded himself inside the home, prompting a response from the department’s Crisis Response Unit, which includes SWAT officers and crisis negotiators, police said. After several hours, officers detained the teen without further incident.
The boy, who is not identified because he is not an adult, was booked into juvenile detention on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. No injuries were reported, police said.
