Fresno authorities seek public’s help in solving Sacramento woman’s 1993 death

The body of a woman recovered in Fresno County more than 30 years ago has been identified as a Sacramento woman, and Fresno County authorities are now asking for the public’s help to determine the circumstances of her death.

Janet Fay Moore was 40 years old when her body was discovered July 12, 1993, along Interstate 5 near Kamm Avenue in the Cantua Creek area. Her identity remained unknown for decades until cold case investigators with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office identified her in December.

Moore was born in Nevada, sheriff’s officials said, but lived in Sacramento for more than 20 years, from 1971 until her death in 1993. At the time she was found, Moore was wearing a ring with a picture of a boy believed to be about 3 or 4 years old, a “California Hollywood Rat Race” T-shirt, jean shorts and a white cross necklace.

Nearly 33 years later, the events leading to Moore’s death remain unknown, officials said.
