Janet Fay Moore was 40 years old when her body was discovered July 12, 1993, along Interstate 5 near Kamm Avenue in the Cantua Creek area. Her identity remained unknown for decades until cold case investigators with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office identified her in December.
Moore was born in Nevada, sheriff’s officials said, but lived in Sacramento for more than 20 years, from 1971 until her death in 1993. At the time she was found, Moore was wearing a ring with a picture of a boy believed to be about 3 or 4 years old, a “California Hollywood Rat Race” T-shirt, jean shorts and a white cross necklace.
Nearly 33 years later, the events leading to Moore’s death remain unknown, officials said.
Anyone with information about Moore or the case was asked to contact Fresno County Sheriff’s Detective Sergio Toscano at 559-600-8027, sergio.toscano@fresnosheriff.org or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867 and reference case No. 93-18564. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
