Woodland man arrested in connection with fatal hit-and-run crash in Long Beach
A 59-year-old Woodland man was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that happened in December 2024, the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.
According to police, officers responded to a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of California Avenue and San Antonio Drive on Dec. 26, 2024 at approximately 4:45 p.m.
The investigation indicated that the suspect ran a red light and collided with the victim’s vehicle before briefly getting out of his car and fleeing the scene. Distracted driving by the suspect was a possible factor, police said.
The victim, identified as 78-year-old Nikki Rash, declined medical treatment at the scene but went to the hospital a few hours after the crash, where she died on Jan. 4.
The suspect was identified through the department’s investigation, including a review of security camera footage and the use of Automatic License Plate Reader technology, police said.
The U.S. Marshals Service in Sacramento arrested the man on Jan. 26.
The suspect was booked into Long Beach City Jail on charges of a hit-and-run resulting in death, and his bail was set at $50,000.
Records from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s jail log indicate that the man bailed out and was released.
