Arden Arcade man faces assault, abuse charges after threatening dad with knife

A man who reportedly threatened his father with a knife outside the father’s Arden Arcade home was arrested Tuesday after a brief standoff with Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies.

Dispatchers took a call about 9:30 a.m. from the home in the 3600 block of Jade Court. The caller said his adult son had threatened him with the blade before the caller fled to meet deputies to tell them what had happened, sheriff’s officials said.

Authorities said the man’s son did not live at the Jade Court home but was allowed to sleep in his car parked outside. Why the man allegedly attacked his father was not immediately known Tuesday.

Additional deputies and a sheriff’s dog were called to the scene along with a tactical vehicle, said sheriff’s officials. The son refused to surrender to deputies.

As he walked through the home’s backyard, the K-9 was sent in to subdue the man. He was taken to a hospital to be treated and was expected to be booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse, deputies said.
