Sutter County sheriff’s investigators arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted homicide after apparent stray gunfire from a Wednesday afternoon shooting in Live Oak struck a nearby home and a vehicle.

The shooting was reported about 3 p.m. in the 2800 block of Pennington Road in Live Oak, just west of Highway 99 in Live Oak, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday morning in a news release.

The reported shooting involved a group of people at a nearby park. Sheriff’s officials everyone had left the area before deputies arrived.

Deputies obtained a description of a vehicle believed to have been involved in the shoot. Sheriff’s officials said the vehicle was seen leaving the area and heading north. A be-on-the-lookout alert was radioed to deputies and other law enforcement agencies in the area.

Sheriff’s detectives learned that the group who left in the suspect vehicle had fired gunshots at another person seen running away. Gunfire from the shooting struck a nearby home and a vehicle, sheriff’s officials said.

Gridley police later spotted the suspect vehicle and pulled it over on Highway 99 in Gridley. Sheriff’s officials said police found inside the vehicle a gun believed to have been used in the shooting.

A sheriff’s detectives assigned to the town of Live Oak took over the investigation and was assisted by members of the sheriff’s Investigations Unit.

Sheriff’s officials said detectives arrested a 17-year-old boy from Marysville on suspicion of attempted homicide, shooting at an inhabited home, unlawfully carrying a firearm, participating in a criminal street gang and promoting or assisting a criminal street gang. The minor was booked at the Sutter County Juvenile Hall.

Detectives also arrested a 30-year-old Yuba City man on suspicion of being an accessory to a crime, participating in a criminal street gang, promoting or assisting a criminal street gang, driving under the influence of alcohol and violating parole. He was booked at the Sutter County Jail.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office at 530-822-7307.
