Suspect in Mather standoff with Sacramento deputies facing gun, domestic violence charges
A 64-year-old Mather man was arrested Thursday after an hourslong standoff with Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies and now faces domestic violence and weapons charges, authorities said.
Rickey Dean Hayashida was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and illegal discharge of a firearm. Bail was set at $100,000 ahead of a Tuesday appearance in Sacramento Superior Court.
Deputies responded about 12:30 p.m. to the 4300 block of McRoberts Drive in the Mather community after receiving a report of shots fired during a domestic violence incident, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
At least one shot was fired, and Hayashida remained inside the home, authorities said.
“The victim is fortunately safe with deputies,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post. “The suspect is armed and currently barricaded inside the residence and is believed to be alone.”
Radio traffic reviewed by The Sacramento Bee indicated deputies were told the man possessed numerous weapons, including handguns and several shotguns.
Deputies established a perimeter and issued commands for the suspect to exit the residence, sheriff’s officials said. A sheriff’s SWAT team and a BearCat armored vehicle were deployed during the response.
Hayashida was taken into custody about 3:40 p.m. and transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
