Detectives arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted homicide after a shooting Friday night in the parking lot of a Save Mart grocery store in Truckee.

The shooting was reported about 9 p.m. at the Truckee Crossroads shopping center on Deerfield Drive, just south of Interstate 80 in Truckee.

No injuries were reported. Officers arrived at the scene and found those involved in the shooting had already left the area, according to a news release from the Truckee Police Department.

Officers found numerous spent shell casings on the ground where the shooting occurred in the Save Mart parking lot. Police said detectives collected evidence at the scene and reviewed security camera video.

The detectives determined the shooting stemmed from a fight involving a group of males. Police said one of the males in the fight brandished a handgun and fired gunshots at others.

The suspected shooter continued firing the gun as the others tried to leave, “without any regard for innocent bystanders” nearby who were not involved in the fight, but in range of the gunfire, police said. No one was struck by gunfire.

Investigators later identified the shooting suspect, a 15-year-old boy from Truckee. Police said the teen was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, reckless discharge of a firearm and violating his probation.

The arrested teen was booked at the Placer County Juvenile Detention Facility, where he was being held without bail, police said on Monday.

Detectives have not found the gun used in the shooting.

Investigators asked anyone with additional information about this shooting to call the police department at 530-550-2320 or send an email to crimetips@townoftruckee.gov.
