El Dorado County sheriff’s officials arrested a man on suspicion of homicide after deputies found his wife dead with a gunshot wound inside their Placerville home.

On Tuesday, deputies were initially called to the home in the 1400 block of Big Oak Road for a report of a man brandishing a gun, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday afternoon in a news release.

Deputies arrived and detained Geoffrey Snyder, 57, at the Placerville home. Sheriff’s officials said the deputies also found Shelley Snyder, 56, dead from a gunshot wound inside the home.

Geoffrey Snyder was later arrested on suspicion of homicide, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was booked at the El Dorado County Jail, where he was being held without bail.

Sheriff’s officials declined to release any further details, including the relation between the arrested suspect and the woman found dead, saying the homicide investigation is ongoing.

Public and jail records show the Snyders are a married couple living together in the Big Oak Road home where the suspect was arrested Tuesday evening.
