Ebony Alert issued for 3 counties after disappearance of teen girl in Elk Grove
The California Highway Patrol on Thursday night activated an Ebony Alert for a missing 17-year-old girl last seen earlier this month in Elk Grove, with the search extending beyond Sacramento to San Francisco and Alameda counties.
The alert was issued at the request of the Elk Grove Police Department, the CHP said in its advisory.
Samaya Martin was last seen about 6 p.m. Feb. 5 after she ran away from her foster home near Brockenhurst Drive and Mossburn Way in Elk Grove, according to the CHP alert. Authorities said she is believed to be on foot.
“Martin is originally from Oakland,” the Elk Grove Police Department said in a statement, “and we have received information that she may be back in that area, possibly near 10th Street and Wood Street.”
Martin is described as 5-foot-8 and about 200 pounds with green hair and brown eyes.
“A CHP alert has been issued to Bay Area agencies. We are asking anyone with family or friends in the Oakland area to share this information to help spread the word,” Elk Grove officials said.
Anyone who sees Martin is asked to call 911.
Ebony Alerts, a program that began last year, help to provide information to the public about the “suspicious or unexplainable disappearance” of a Black youth between ages 12 and 25, according to the CHP.
