Man killed, arrest made in Yuba City hit-and-run on Colusa Ave. stretch of Hwy. 20

Pedestrian fatality

A man was struck and killed Friday in a hit-and-run crash on Colusa Avenue in Yuba City, police said.

The collision occurred about 6:15 a.m. at the intersection of Colusa Avenue, which is signed Highway 20, and Stafford Way, according to Lt. Michael Bullard, a spokesperson for the Yuba City Police Department.

Bullard said the victim, described as an “elderly adult male,” was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit. The driver fled the scene after the crash.

Officers later caught up to the driver and arrested him suspicion of felony hit-and-run, Bullard said. The suspect was booked into the Sutter County Jail and was expected to be arraigned as early as Monday.

Police said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision. The investigation remained ongoing Friday, Bullard said.

The pedestrian’s name was not immediately released. Bullard said the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division would identify the man after his family was notified.

The crash prompted temporary road closures to Colusa Avenue, the main east-west thoroughfare, through central Yuba City. The roadway reopened before 11 a.m.
