Deadly encounter leaves man dead in CHP officer-involved shooting in North Sacramento

A man was shot and killed in a deadly encounter with California Highway Patrol officers early Friday in North Sacramento, authorities said.

Sacramento homicide and crime scene detectives were investigating the shooting during a traffic stop in the area of El Camino Avenue and Boxwood Street in Old North Sacramento.

Police officials said officers were called by the CHP to the area of El Camino and Boxwood just after midnight to assist with medical aid until Sacramento Fire Department responders arrived. Sacramento Fire personnel pronounced the person dead at the scene. Police officials said Sacramento officers also recovered a handgun from the scene.
