hit and run fatality

A woman was killed Friday night after a hit-and-run crash on Florin Road in south Sacramento.

Officers responded just before 8:30 p.m. to reports of a two-vehicle collision in the 1500 block of Florin Road near Freeport Boulevard in the Meadowview neighborhood, the Sacramento Police Department said in a statement.

When officers arrived, they found one of the drivers, an adult woman, outside the vehicle in the westbound lanes of the roadway with life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters, police said.

Police said the other vehicle involved fled before officers arrived.

The agency’s Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives and crime scene investigators took over the case, and the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. Police did not say if others in the vehicle had been injured.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the woman’s identity after her family is notified.
