Sacramento County jurors convicted a man of second-degree murder in a deadly 2021 shooting at a Carmichael apartment.

Larrel Martin Weathers, 39, was convicted Tuesday in Sacramento Superior Court of second-degree murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling and being a felon in possession of a firearm in the June 21, 2021, shooting death of Marcellus Cory Baker-Lee.

Weathers faces up to 61 years to life in state prison when he is sentenced May 8 before Sacramento Superior Court Judge Ernest Sawtelle.

He remains in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail pending sentencing.

Weathers was carrying a firearm when he went to a Carmichael apartment to confront a man involved in a dispute with his sister, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

Weathers forced the man to sit outside the apartment. Baker-Lee was inside and was opening the door when Weathers fired a fatal shot through the door.

Weathers fled the scene. His weapon was never recovered, prosecutors said.

Jurors on Tuesday also found true allegations that Weathers personally used a firearm causing death and had a prior residential burglary conviction.
