Yuba 10-year-old confronts her rapist in court; Olivehurst man gets 55 years in prison

In the courts: Gavel silhouette

An Olivehurst man was sentenced to 55 years to life in prison for raping a 10-year-old girl, prosecutors said, crediting the victim’s testimony with helping secure the conviction.

Alvin Flores Jr., 48, received the sentence Monday from Yuba Superior Court Judge Julia L. Scrogin, according to the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office. Flores had been convicted by a jury in March of unlawful sex with a minor.

“You used your power over me and took something that I didn’t understand how to defend,” the girl told Flores at his sentencing, the District Attorney’s Office said.

“Our community’s children are safer in part thanks to Jane Doe’s courage, and this predator has been put behind bars for the next five decades,” the DA’s Office said.

“In cases like this, it truly takes a village to achieve justice,” prosecutors said. “We also commend the Yuba County jury for doing their part to ensure Flores can no longer harm another child.”

Flores, who has been in custody at the Sutter County Jail since his July 2023 arrest at an AM-PM mini-mart on Powerline Road in Olivehurst, was expected to be transferred to the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation soon.
