Marysville High student detained after gun found on campus, superintendent says
A student at Marysville High School was detained Monday after authorities found a handgun on campus, district officials said.
School administrators received a report that a student had brought a firearm to school, according to a message sent to families by Superintendent Jordan Reeves.
A school resource officer who was already on campus responded immediately, and additional officers arrived within minutes, Reeves said. The student was detained, and a search uncovered a handgun in the student’s possession, he said.
No injuries were reported, and Reeves credited the initial report for prompting a quick response.
“We are incredibly grateful for the quick thinking that led to this report,” Reeves said. “This incident is a critical reminder of the importance of speaking up. The safety and well-being of our school community remain our highest priority.”
Officials did not say how the report was made or whether the student would face charges.
Counseling services were made available to students and staff following the incident, Reeves said.
