1 killed, 1 critically wounded after being shot by guard during Sacramento break-in

Gunshot fatality

Police are investigating after one man was killed and another wounded Friday morning after a security guard opened fire during a reported burglary at a business in Sacramento’s Florin Fruitridge Industrial Park.

Officers responded shortly after 4:30 a.m. to reports of a burglary in the 8500 block of Thys Court, according to Officer Anthony Gamble, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department. Additional calls later reported gunfire in the area, he said.

When officers arrived, they found two suspected burglars suffering from at least one gunshot wound each, Gamble said. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Investigators believe the security guard at the business fired the shots, Gamble said. The guard remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The investigation is ongoing, Gamble said.
