A car crashed into a North Auburn CVS drug store in an apparent burglary attempt, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

No one was inside the business off Highway 49 when the driver plowed a Subaru through the store’s entrance about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, deputies in a statement posted to Facebook.

Photos posted by the Sheriff’s Office show the extent of the damage and the car’s path of travel. The driver left behind twisted metal after crashing through the front doors and a trail of shattered glass and items tossed from store shelves before the car came to a stop near the rear of the store.

No items were believed taken in the early morning incident, sheriff’s officials said.

Responding deputies reviewed security videos that showed the driver fled the store following the crash and left in a second vehicle. The car abandoned in the store was later identified as stolen out of Sacramento, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.
