Roseville trucker accused in Pennsylvania of killing driving partner captured in Miami
A Roseville long-haul trucker accused of killing of his driving partner in Pennsylvania is facing homicide charges after his arrest in Miami, authorities said.
Ilia Romanchenko, 25, of Roseville, was arrested at 4:17 a.m. Sunday by Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies on an out-of-state fugitive warrant out of Pennsylvania, according to a Miami-Dade affidavit obtained by The Sacramento Bee. Romanchenko remained in custody Wednesday in Florida awaiting extradition back to Pennsylvania.
A June 10 extradition hearing is scheduled in Miami-Dade County Court, court records show.
Pennsylvania State Police discovered the body of the victim, later identified as Oleksandr Hurianov, 53, about 10 a.m. Saturday under a blanket on the shoulder of Pennsylvania State Route 441 in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, according to a state police news release.
Londonderry Township is a rural-suburban community about 15 miles southeast of the state capital, Harrisburg.
Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police officials were not immediately available for comment Wednesday, but Harrisburg television station WPMT-TV, citing state police and district attorney’s charging documents, said Hurianov’s body was found with multiple stab wounds and severe head trauma. Hurianov’s wallet, containing his driver’s license, also was found.
The two men worked for the Fair Oaks-based trucking company New Route Inc., according to police records cited by the Pennsylvania station. The firm was contacted by law enforcement after Hurianov’s wife reported him missing.
A New Route representative told police that Romanchenko said he had gotten into a fight with Hurianov and told officials where he had parked their truck, according to the television report. State police used GPS data supplied by the trucking firm to find the truck after it had stopped briefly before driving on to a neighboring county.
Investigators found blood inside the truck and later viewed security footage from a convenience store that Romanchenko entered showing him with apparent injuries to his hands and throwing away a plastic bag.
State police, according to the television report, believed Romanchenko then went to Philadelphia to take an early Sunday flight to Miami.
