Three people were arrested after gunfire from target shooting allegedly struck multiple homes and a vehicle in an Elk Grove neighborhood, the Elk Grove Police Department announced Thursday.

Elk Grove police officers received reports of gunshots coming from near Kent Street at about 6 p.m. Sunday, according to a police statement. Officers quickly deployed a drone through the department’s Drone as a First Responder program and identified three people shooting firearms at targets on private property near the railroad tracks.

The target shooting was conducted without permission and in the direction of a residential neighborhood, later identified as Falcon Meadow, officials said.

Four homes and a vehicle in the 9800 block of Falcon Meadow were struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported, according to the department.

Using real-time drone footage, police said officers located the three suspects, who had left the scene in two separate vehicles and were traveling northbound on Waterman Road. Police arrested the three individuals and seized six firearms “within minutes,” the department said.

The three suspects were charged with shooting into an inhabited dwelling and negligent discharge of a firearm and were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
