A 41-year-old man was arrested in Folsom after police said he assaulted a woman at a light rail station in the city’s Historic District.

The suspect, identified as Ryan T. Murray, was arrested Sunday and faces charges of making criminal threats, assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and resisting or obstructing a peace officer, according to Sacramento Superior Court records.

He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon. Murray’s next hearing is a July 29 settlement conference. As of Thursday morning, Murray remained in the Sacramento County Jail, according to the inmate locator. Bail was set at $50,000.

Folsom Detective Deidre McAuliff said the incident occurred in the Historic District, but Murray was ultimately detained at a nearby station. McAuliff said the woman was a passenger.

It was not clear how Murray, who is from North Highlands, purportedly resisted officers or if the incident resulted in injuries.

Sacramento Regional Transit spokesperson Jessica Gonzalez said safety and security is a top priority for the transportation agency. The crime rate for RT, she said, is 2.7 major incidents per 1 million rides.

“Our Security Operations Center (SOC) monitors nearly 5,000 live-feed cameras around the clock,” Gonzalez wrote in a statement. “Every light rail station is equipped with speakers that allow SOC staff to communicate directly when they observe nuisance behavior.”

Because of this technology, she said, 85% of incidents stop after a speaker announcement.

Riders can also text reports to 916-318-3330.
