hit and run fatality

Sacramento police are seeking the driver in a deadly hit-and-run that killed a 9-year-old Oak Park girl Thursday night and left a man with serious injuries.

Police said the girl was with the adult and riding a minibike near 36th Street and 19th Avenue in South Oak Park just before 8 p.m. when the pair were struck. The driver fled the scene before officers arrived.

Officers called to the scene found the two, who were rushed to a hospital by emergency responders. The girl died of her injuries at the hospital, Sacramento Police Department officials said just after 9:15 p.m., little more than an hour after the collision.

The man was expected to survive his injuries, police said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the girl’s identity once next of kin have been notified.

Sacramento Police major collision and crime scene investigators were called to the scene, and department officials urged witnesses to call dispatchers at 916-808-5471.
