Nevada man charged after allegedly injuring CHP officer during Elk Grove arrest

A Nevada man accused of assaulting his domestic partner and injuring a California Highway Patrol officer during his arrest near Elk Grove last week was arraigned Tuesday on multiple felony charges, authorities said.

The suspect, Ricardo Gonzalez Gurrola, 32, of Carson City, was charged with felony counts of aggravated mayhem, corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant and resisting an officer, according to jail records and the CHP’s South Sacramento office.

About 8:10 p.m. Thursday, CHP officers responded to reports of a man assaulting a woman on the right shoulder of southbound Highway 99 south of Dillard Road, between Elk Grove and Galt.

Gonzalez Gurrola allegedly assaulted a CHP officer who attempted to detain him before he was taken into custody, according to a CHP South Sacramento news release. He was booked into jail shortly after midnight Friday, according to jail records.

The officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The woman was taken to a local hospital with injuries she sustained in the alleged assault, CHP said.

Gonzalez Gurrola remains in custody without bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail. He is scheduled to return to Sacramento Superior Court on July 8.
