Homicide investigation

Investigators are looking into what the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office called a double homicide.

Deputies responded to Sills Road in Arbuckle at 4:53 p.m. Friday after receiving a report that a person may be dead.

When deputies arrived, they found two unresponsive men with gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims were identified as Jason Edward Carr, 48, of Dunnigan, and Richard Leon Mathies Jr., 36, of Yolo County.

Sheriff’s Office detectives, with assistance from the Colusa County Task Force and California Department of Justice crime scene investigators, launched an investigation on Friday.

Detectives remained at the scene overnight collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses and following leads, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said there is no information at this time to suggest there is an ongoing threat to the community. The investigation remains active.

Anyone who was traveling on or near Sills Road on Thursday or Friday, or who has information about the case, is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Antonio Ruiz at the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 458-0200.
