Man arrested after woman found dead on Fourth of July during wellness check

A man was arrested in connection with a wellness check on Saturday that led deputies to a woman found dead inside an apartment in Foothill Farms, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies conducted the wellness check at 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Based on witness statements, detectives identified the suspect as 35-year-old Salvador Villalaz, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies arrested Villalaz and booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Officials said he is being held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
