Woodland man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault of two underage girls
A Woodland man was arrested July 2 after investigators said he sexually assaulted at least two underage girls, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
Yolo County deputies received a report on June 29 of a sexual assault involving a juvenile, a spokesperson for the department wrote in a social media statement on Monday. The victim, who was under the age of 15, had been assaulted approximately 12 hours prior investigators determined.
During the ensuing investigation, conducted with the Woodland Police Department, Yolo County detectives identified a second underage victim, who they believed had been assaulted by the same suspect.
According to detectives, the suspect targeted underage girls he met on Snapchat. After befriending them, the 22-year-old allegedly provided them with alcohol until they became inebriated and then sexually assaulted them.
“It is believed that detectives have located but not yet identified other possible underage victims,” a spokesperson for the department wrote, urging anyone who may have been a victim of a sexual assault by the Woodland man to come forward.
Investigators developed “additional probable cause” to arrest the man while working with Cameron’s Place, a children’s advocacy center in Yolo County where child sexual abuse victims are given medical exams, interviewed, and receive therapy and support services, according to the sheriff’s office.
On July 2, Yolo County Sheriff’s deputies and Woodland and West Sacramento police executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in the 1500 block of 6th Street in Woodland. He was arrested without incident.
He will be arraigned on Wednesday, July 8, according to the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives encouraged witnesses or possible victims to contact the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 668-5280 or via email as the investigation continues.
