A Sacramento Superior Court judge on Thursday sentenced a man to more than 40 years in prison for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman who was drugged and tied up, prosecutors said.
Judge Donald Currier sentenced Graham Matthew O’Connor, 42, to 41 years and four months in prison for the sexual assault, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday in a news release.
On June 9, a jury found O’Connor guilty of two counts of rape by use of drugs and two counts of oral copulation by use of anesthesia or a controlled substance.
O’Connor had a previous burglary conviction considered a strike under California’s “Three Strikes” law. Prosecutors said the previous conviction was factor in his sentencing, along with aggravating factors in the sexual assault charges.
O’Connor was in a relationship with the woman when she was sexually assaulted. On Jan. 30, 2022, she discovered video of O’Connor engaging in sexual acts with her while she was asleep, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said O’Connor tied up her arms, restrained her and then raped and orally copulated her. The woman told investigators she was under the influence and didn’t remember engaging in those sexual acts.
On a separate occasion, O’Connor raped and orally copulated the woman again when she was drugged and unable to consent or resist, according to the DA’s Office.
On Friday, O’Connor remained in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail awaiting transfer to a prison.
