A homeless man has been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with a grass fire last week along Highway 50 in El Dorado County.
At 11:45 p.m. Friday, El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies received a report of a grass fire along the highway near Still Meadows Road in Camino. The caller reported seeing a man just off the highway, standing near the fire.
When a deputy arrived, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection crews had extinguished the fire and were conducting mop-up activities. Cal Fire personnel said they had located a man near the burned area. The deputy contacted 30-year-old Justin Tuilos, described as a transient, sitting inside the burned area on the hillside.
Sheriff’s officials said Tulios admitted starting the fire and was arrested on suspicion of arson. They said he also was found to have a dagger and was also booked on suspicion of possessing a deadly weapon. Tulios is being held in El Dorado County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
