Pedestrian hit, dies in Citrus Heights roadway

A passing vehicle struck and killed a man standing on a roadway in Citrus Heights on Thursday evening.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. on Auburn Boulevard north of Twin Oaks Avenue, according to the Citrus Heights Police Department. The pedestrian, who was identified as an adult male, seemed to be standing on the roadway for an unknown reason, according to a preliminary investigation. The man was not on a marked crosswalk.

The road was shut down for six hours. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Neither vehicle speed nor alcohol appear to be involved in the incident.

The pedestrian’s identity has not been released.

The Citrus Heights Police Department traffic unit is asking with anyone with information about accident to call the department at 916-727-5500.
